Located in the central valley higher above in altitude with cool temperatures San Jose is the capital city of Costa Rica. Most economic activities take place here and over 1/3 of the population lives and works here. Although no skyscrapers yet exist, museums, some colonial buildings and the famous National Theater from 1897 embellish this city that seems not to find the scenic equilibrium between the past and modern times. It is however, still a very safe city with relative quick access to close one day tours such as the Poas Volcano.
