La Fortuna is a small town located at the base of the active Arenal Volcano. It is one of the places most visited by tourists. Here you can find numerous restaurants, pharmacies, and supermarkets with a great view of the majestic Arenal Volcano. The Arenal is 1.633 m (5,357 ft) high. It made it’s first explosion in 1968 and since then it is an active volcano although its volcanic activity has lowered since 2009.
